We all make spelling mistakes from time to time. We also rely too much on spell check in our word processer and email applications. Search engines now even suggest alternatives if you did make a mistake. So few of us even have an actual dictionary in our offices, let alone a thesaurus but they are still published and are kept in the reference section of bookstores. Oxford has a great line of books but remember to choose the English edition that pertains to you. There are differences between the American, Canadian and British editions. If you are targeting Canadian donors, make sure words are spelt the Canadian way.

The task of compiling a list of all of the common misspelt words would take weeks, so today we are only focusing on the fundraising industry. Here are common words that are often misspelled in fundraising communications. Please note these are as per The Canadian Press and the Canadian Oxford Dictionary.
